Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park









Sequoia National Park was first established in 1890 in California. Soon after, Kings Cayon Park merged with Sequoia. The park holds over 300 different species of wild animals including Black bears, gray fox, acorn woodpecker, wood rat, and California king snake.





Also included in the park there are around 1,469 different types of plants! These plants can vary from the highlight of the park, the great Sequoia trees, to the Himilayan blackberry bush. This national park is famous for its 48 different types of trees, especially the Sequioa, which the park is named after. Currently, the park holds the 5 largest Sequoia's in the world! One highlight of the Park is to visit the General Sherman tree. It weighs around 2.7 million pounds, is 279.4 feet tall, and is believed to be around 2,100 years old! It is the largest living thing on Earth!

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is around 404,051 acres and has approx. 1 Million visitors annually. This national reserve was the first National Park in the State of California and the second National Park in the United States.


Some activities in the park include: snowshoeing, cross country skiing, horse back riding, and hiking. Other activites to do in the park include visiting the Moro Rock which is a dome created by exfoliation. You can also visit the Crystal Cave where tours are given.

Another crowd favorite of the park is the Giant Log Tunnel in the entrance of the park. It's made out of a whole tree!

The animals get so close in this park that visitors are required to have proper food storage. The food cannot be in plastic bags from the grocery store or in coolers because the bears can tell that that is a food source and will try to grab it from you. These bears are wild, so remember to be careful!
