Grand Canyon National Park

The Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park spans 277 miles of the Colorado River in Arizona. The park includes a massive canyon 18 miles wide at its largest. The huge rocky canyon walls are up to about 6000ft deep at its deepest point. The canyon itself was formed by millions of years of erosion by the Colorado River. For visitors there are many ways to see the canyon. One of the best and most frightening is the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

The Skywalk features a large glass-bottom walkway for unrestricted viewing of the canyon walls. Along with the Skywalk visitors can enjoy the excitement of whitewater rafting on the Colorado River. The rough and continuing rapids of the river make it a center for experienced rafters. Visitors may also see the canyon in other ways. They include hiking, plane and helicopter tours , or even on the back of a mule. The Grand Canyon and surrounding Kaibab National Forrest also include a diverse desert ecosystem. The area supports large mammals such as elk, coyote and big horn sheep. Along with these large mammals there are rare birds of prey such as the bald eagle, peregrine falcon and california condor. Whatever you look for there, will ofter a rewarding experience. The beautiful landscapes and numerous activities make it a great destination for travel. Anything and everything there gives any visitor an excellent way of interacting with the enviroment around them.
